About the Raleigh Mayor & City Council

The Raleigh City Council often has a more direct impact on your daily life than Congress or the President, making decisions on such important issues as affordable housing, public transportation, crime and safety, parks and community centers, future growth of the city and more.

The Mayor and City Council appoint the City Manager – who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of running the city, including such responsibilities as hiring the city’s Chief of Police, who sets the priorities and direction of the city’s police force.

Make sure you have a voice in the city's future – #voteRaleigh Nov. 7!
